Death By Audio Deep Animation: An Envelope Filter With Serious Attitude
The Death By Audio Deep Animation envelope filter pedal takes the classic auto-wah idea and drags it somewhere much stranger. It’s an analog filter with built-in overdrive that tracks how hard you play, so every pick attack pushes the sweep, the resonance, and the grit. Handmade in New York City, it’s built for guitarists and bassists who want a filter that feels alive instead of polite.
Dig in and the filter jumps open with thick, vocal quack. Back off and it settles down. Turn up Intensity and resonance, sweep depth, and dirt all climb together, moving the pedal from funky envelope tones into chewy, snarling filtered overdrive. Six frequency ranges let you place the effect anywhere from piercing, trebly bite to deep, subby thump, and the Up/Down footswitch flips the sweep direction on the fly for a completely different feel.
How It Fits Your Rig
On guitar, the Deep Animation covers funk rhythm parts, punchy lead hooks, and garage-rock grind, and it gets even wilder with a fuzz in front of it. On bass, the lower frequency ranges deliver fat, moving envelope tones that stay big in the mix. The Trig input opens up another world: feed it a drum machine, a kick drum signal, or a keyboard, and the filter sweeps in time with that source instead of your picking. That makes it a creative tool for studio sessions, electronic setups, and live rigs locked to a drummer.

FAQ
Does the Deep Animation work on bass?
Yes. It works well on both guitar and bass, and the lower frequency ranges are especially strong for bass.
What does the Trig input do?
It lets an external signal, like a drum machine or another instrument, trigger the filter sweep, so the effect follows that rhythm instead of your playing.
Can I set the overdrive separately from the filter?
No. The Intensity knob raises resonance, filter depth, and grit together. That combined control is a big part of the pedal’s character.
What power supply does it need?
A standard 9V DC adapter with a 2.1mm center-negative plug. It draws 18 mA and can also run on a 9V battery.
