The Roswell Pro Audio Cab Mic is a dedicated large-diaphragm condenser engineered specifically for electric guitar cabinets. Voiced like a ribbon mic—but without the fragility—it delivers a soft, never-harsh top end, huge headroom, and incredibly natural tone with minimal effort. Designed in collaboration with top session legends, the Cab Mic makes it easier than ever to capture the true sound of your amp.
“The Roswell Cab Mic has become one of my go-to mics for electric guitar.”
— David Grissom
The Cab Mic originated after David Grissom and Tim Pierce discovered how well Roswell’s RM8 worked on cabs. They didn’t need its pattern circuitry—they just wanted the tone. Roswell responded by designing a simpler, ultra-reliable, purpose-built mic that recreated that sound while being more accessible to guitarists. The circuit board even bears Grissom’s initials.
Guitar cabinets demand durability, enormous headroom, and a top end that tames harshness. The Cab Mic delivers all three, outperforming popular dynamics, condensers, and ribbons in testing—without requiring multiple mic blends or phase-management tricks.
The Cab Mic uses a unique, proprietary-tuned large-diaphragm capsule paired with a low-distortion, high-SPL circuit design featuring premium vintage European film capacitors. The result is a mic that can sit dead-center on the dust cap—one of the most articulate, detailed mic positions—without the harshness typical of many mics.
Its gently rolled-off top end (above 3 kHz) mirrors classic ribbon behavior, while its cardioid pattern provides more predictable proximity effect and punch. Best of all, it’s rugged—no ribbon to stretch or destroy with a gust of air.
Start by placing the grille centered on the speaker’s dust cap and six inches back from the cloth. Turn the amp up to its sweet spot; the Cab Mic can handle 100W tube amps without clipping your preamp or converters.
More bass? Move the mic closer.
Less bass? Pull it back.
Its proximity effect is smooth, linear, and far less likely to get muddy than a ribbon.
While optimized for electric guitar, the Cab Mic also shines on:
Trumpet and brass
Drum room miking, where its soft top end naturally tames cymbal wash
This model is not intended for vocals, acoustic instruments, or piano—Roswell’s other microphones handle those sources better.
Custom large-diaphragm capsule with proprietary tuning
High-headroom, low-distortion circuit design
Premium hand-selected audiophile-grade components
Heavy, solid steel body for durability
Ribbon-like voicing for smooth, mix-ready guitar tones
Internal gain staging built for very high SPL sources
Extremely durable and road-ready
Designed to capture your amp’s tone without EQ or mic-blending gymnastics
Lower sensitivity, lower output, and more headroom than all Mini K models
Darker voicing than any Mini K variant
Unique capsule and circuit design optimized specifically for guitar cabinet and high-SPL sources
Shares high-SPL topology with the KD, but employs its own tuning and premium vintage European film capacitors
Similar smooth top-end behavior
More predictable and linear proximity effect thanks to tighter-than-cardioid pattern
Zero ribbon fragility—safe to place close, even with loud air movement
Heavy-duty swivel mount
Roswell microfleece mic sock
Shockmounts aren’t necessary for cab recording due to high SPL, but a flight case and shockmount are available via the Custom Shop.
