The Summer School Electronics Gus-Plus is a bass overdrive pedal built on the Gus-Drive, Summer School’s first pedal, with one important addition: a Blend knob that rolls your clean signal back in. You get all the presence and saturation of an overdriven tone without losing the low frequencies and note definition that hold a band together.
It is voiced for bass but not limited to it. Guitarists in drop tunings, and any instrument that needs to keep its clarity under distortion, can get a lot out of the Gus-Plus. Like every Summer School pedal, it is hand-built in Syracuse, New York.
Three knobs do the work: Vol, Blend, and Drive. With Blend turned all the way down, the Gus-Plus behaves like a standard Gus-Drive, giving you a volume boost into a wide range of overdriven tones. Bring Blend up and your clean signal returns underneath the drive, so the core of every note stays solid while the overdrive adds grit and bite on top.
On bass, use the Gus-Plus as an always-on grit pedal that adds presence and helps you cut through the mix without thinning out your low end, or kick it on for heavier sections. Guitarists in drop tunings can keep big, defined lows under a saturated tone. Top-mounted jacks keep the footprint tidy on a crowded board.
The Gus-Plus adds a Blend knob that mixes your clean signal back in, which keeps your low end and note definition intact. With Blend all the way down, it works like a standard Gus-Drive.
Yes. It is built with bass in mind, but it works on guitar too, and the clean blend is especially useful for drop-tuned playing.
Once you add clean signal, both knobs affect your overall level, so adjust them together until the mix of drive and clean sits where you want it.
A standard 9V DC, center negative pedal power supply.
Grit on top, low end underneath, and a good boy on every board.
