The EarthQuaker Devices Plumes Jr MOSFET Mod is a limited edition mini overdrive pedal that packs the famous Small Signal Shredder into the most pedalboard-friendly housing the circuit has ever worn. Only 2,000 units are being made worldwide, each one built by hand in Akron, Ohio, and dressed in special artwork you won’t find on the standard Plumes.
The big story is the third clipping mode. The screamer-style silicon diode setting from the full-size Plumes has been swapped for a new MOSFET clipping circuit that delivers a tight, focused, harmonically rich overdrive with more low end and the dynamic feel of a modern high-gain tube amp. The other two voices are exactly what Plumes fans already love.
Flip the three-way toggle to L for symmetrical LED clipping: crunchy, compressed and articulate, the most saturated of the three. N removes the clipping diodes entirely for wide-open op-amp drive that doubles as a clean boost. M is the new MOSFET Mod voice, with a commanding bite and extra bottom end that responds to your picking like a cranked amp. The Tone control is useful through its whole sweep, with big, clear lows to the left, familiar mids at noon and bright highs to the right that cut without killing the middle.
If your board is already packed, the Plumes Jr is the easy answer: an always-on overdrive that tucks into a gap where a standard pedal won’t fit. Run it in N as a clean boost in front of a fuzz, stack it ahead of a tube amp sitting on the edge of breakup, or use M to turn a clean pedal-platform amp into a tight modern rock rhythm machine.
It lives in a much smaller mini enclosure with special artwork, and the third mode now uses MOSFET clipping instead of the original screamer-style silicon diodes. The L and N modes are identical to modes 1 and 2 on the full-size Plumes.
Any standard 9V DC pedal supply with a 2.1mm center-negative barrel. It draws only 25 mA, so it’s easy on isolated supplies.
Yes. Mode N removes the clipping diodes for wide-open op-amp drive, which makes it a great clean boost.
Small box, big shred, and a MOSFET mode worth making room for.
