A new twist on the long-awaited full-size unit

The MS-20 is reborn in four limited-edition colors The MS-20 played a vital role KORG’s history as a synthesizer brand. Even after sales of the original, released in the late 70’s, came to an end, KORG has carried on the MS-20 tradition in a mini-sized reissue, a software synthesizer plugin, and even a kit version. These were driven by our pride in our synthesizer heritage, our understanding of its historical significance, our responsibility to faithfully carry on the analog circuit technology that we’ve developed over the years, and our desire to pass on its generation-spanning sound to the future.

And now, we have resumed production of a completely assembled full-size MS-20, which had in 2014 been produced only in very small numbers as a kit. But in addition to faithfully recreating the sound, feel, and analog circuitry, this full-size reissue will consist of limited numbers of four different powder-coated color variations: khaki (KHAKI), white (WHITE), metallic blue (MBLUE), and black (BLACK).

This MS-20 FS is the genuine MS-20 made by KORG, faithful to the original in every way. Today, 40 years after first appearing in 1978, musicians hungry for this absolutely timeless sound can hear the genuine analog power of the MS-20.  The MS-20 has been painstakingly reproduced by the development team that produced the original MS-20, taking care to recreate the original circuitry for a faithful reproduction of the original sound. The rich and bright tones the MS-20 produces is down to the internal circuitry, designed to produce the sound of the original MS-20 in mint condition before any of the components aged.

The dual oscillators both feature ring modulation and envelope generators with hold and delay functions. The VCA is based on the original design but has been modified slightly to minimize the noise it produces for improved overall audio quality. Self-oscillating filters One of the most revered features of the original MS-20 was its powerful filters, with the MS-20 retaining these self-oscillating filters, providing resonance for both the high-pass and low-pass.

The process works by maximizing the resonance, in-turn causing the filter to self-oscillate and producing a noticeable change in tone. Fans of the MS-20 may know that the filter circuit was changed through its production cycle. The new MS-20 incorporates both the earlier and the later version of the filter, for versatile sound-shaping options. External signal processor (ESP) The External signal processor of the MS-20 gives you the ability to use the pitch of volume of an external source to control your synth.

The experimental nature of the ESP functionality, opens up a new world of flexibility, allowing you to input instruments such as electric guitars and use the MS-20 and a guitar synthesizer, or attach a microphone to change it to a vocal synthesizer. Flexible patching system One of the most prominent features of the MS-20 is its highly-flexible patching system. The patching system located to the right of the panel, gives you the ability to create a complex new sound by changing cables between connections.
