The Monger Pedals Sonic Transducer Modulator is an analog chorus and vibrato pedal built around a V3207 bucket brigade chip and, for the first time from Monger, a digitally controlled LFO. The audio path stays fully analog, while the digital brain unlocks tricks a typical BBD chorus can’t touch.
Keep it gentle and the STM gives you crisp, slightly jittery chorus with just enough warble to make clean chords shimmer. Push it further and things get strange. Eight LFO waveforms, from downward sawtooth and sine to random slopes, take the modulation from smooth and musical to completely unexplainable.
A three-position switch changes how the dry and modulated signals interact.
The classic setup: your dry signal blended with the modulated BBD delay.
The dry signal drops out completely, leaving pure pitch movement.
The modulated delay is mixed with a slightly lo-fi compressed dry signal taken straight from a 571 compander, landing somewhere between chorus and vibrato.
The Medusa switch adds a dry-signal tremolo. Instead of chopping your signal up, it rhythmically pulls the dry level down, so the STM sweeps between chorus and vibrato. It shares the modulation LFO, so both layers stay perfectly in sync.
Run the STM after your drive pedals for wobbly, dimensional leads, or in front of a clean amp for warbly chord work and vintage-style vibrato. Tap tempo locks the modulation to the song on stage, momentary mode drops a burst of vibrato onto a single chord, and the selectable power-on state lets it come up engaged every time on a fly rig or studio setup.
The audio path is fully analog through a V3207 BBD. Only the LFO is digitally controlled, which makes the 8 waveforms and tap tempo possible.
Just nudge the speed control slightly and the STM jumps right back to knob control.
A standard 9V DC center-negative supply. It draws about 60mA.
Subtle when you want it, unexplainable when you don’t. Time to find out what’s hiding in your signal chain.
