The Mad Professor Little Green Wonder Handwired brings back the pedal that started it all for the Finnish company, rebuilt by hand in Tampere twenty years after its original release. It is a high headroom overdrive and boost with a specially tuned EQ curve and focused drive, built to sit comfortably with almost any guitar and amp.
The secret weapon is the Body knob. Instead of a standard tone control, Body sets the frequency focus of the overdrive. Turn it counterclockwise for more bass and low mids with a slight treble lift, or clockwise for a tighter, mid-forward voice with less low end. That makes it easy to dial in for bright single coils or thick humbuckers without losing clarity. The Drive control covers a wide gain range, from a clean push to full, singing overdrive, and the high headroom keeps chords open and articulate.
Run it as your main overdrive in front of a clean amp, or roll the Drive back and use it as a boost to push a tube amp into natural breakup. It stacks nicely with other drive pedals, so it works as a first stage feeding a dirtier pedal or as a lead lift after your core tone. The top-mounted jacks and compact sheet metal enclosure keep it tidy on a crowded pedalboard.
Yes. It uses the original LGW circuit with the same build upgrades as the current Handwired series: through-hole parts, Alpha pots and switches, Switchcraft jacks, and top-mounted jacks.
Body shifts where the overdrive focuses. Counterclockwise adds bass and low mids with a touch of treble, while clockwise gives a mid-focused tone with less bass.
Yes. With Drive set low and Volume up, it works as a boost to push your amp or another drive pedal.
A DC supply with a 2.1 mm center-negative plug. It runs from 7.5V to 18V and does not take a 9V battery.
Twenty years on, the little green box still knows how to make an amp sing.
